Matthew Hunsburger

Matthew's musical journey began as a violinist at age six in rural Western Pennsylvania.  At 16, he moved to Harrisonburg Virginia to attend Eastern Mennonite High School where he had many more opportunities to study and perform in both choral and orchestral ensembles. He received B.A. degrees in Music Performance (voice) and Church Music at Eastern Mennonite University where he founded a 10-member male a cappella ensemble, and has remained in the Harrisonburg area where he co-founded a second 7-member a cappella ensemble that sang together for eight years. He spent many years as a church musician and as music director at Eastern Mennonite Seminary.

Currently, he serves as an Assistant Dean of Students at James Madison University, where he earned a M.E. In College Student Personnel Administration in 2023. He lives with his barely four-pound dog Diesel in a townhouse where he loves cultivating his many outdoor plants and shrubs.  In addition to Viva, he enjoys occasional opportunities to perform as a baritone soloist, actor, and "other" musician (piano, violin, octave violin, etc.).
